- Ziff et al. have recently reported on the validity of Smoluchowski's equation for cluster-cluster aggregation kinetics. They report a small time enhancement in the aggregation rate. It is of interest to study the small time behavior of the Smoluchowski equation without the complicating effect of particle aggregation. We assume the colliding particles coalesce into a single spherical particle upon contact and that the coagulation kernel is independent of particle size. This represents the most elementary coagulation problem.
