- Abstract
- The United States Fire Administration (USFA) has a major commitment to improving the health and safety of firefighters. This mission has created an accompanying interest in learning about the causes of firefighter deaths and injuries. In the process of researching firefighter deaths, it was determined that there is no standard protocol in forensic medicine that would assist a coroner or medical examiner in determining the cause of a firefighter death. The accompanying documentation is intended to describe the need for the protocol, the situational context under which it was developed, and the major issues that relate to it.
