- Abstract
- This report provides statistics on home fires involving entertainment equipment. In 2002-2005, there were an estimated 2,100 non-confined home structure fires per year involving entertainment equipment reported to U.S. fire departments, with associated annual losses of 12 civilian deaths, 110 civilian injuries, and $49 million in direct property damage. The specific types of entertainment equipment with the largest shares of fires were televisions (43%), stereos (15%), and radios (13%). These estimates are based on data from the U.S. Fire Administration's (USFA's) National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) and the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA's) annual fire department experience survey.
