- Abstract
- This report describes the analytic and experimental work done on the design and development of a submicron particle clasifier applicable for airborne virus collection. Operation of the classifier depends upon the fact that the particles will be unipolarly ionized, that is,they will acquire a charge of one sign only. They will then be deposited in an electric field according to their electric mobility. The mobility in turn depends on the mass of the particle and the charge it acquires. As long as the mobility is a single-valued fucntion of the particle diameter, a size classification is obtained in this manner.
