Abstract
In recognizing the needs of state and local emergency first responders, the Office of Law Enforcement Standards (OLES) at NIST is developing chemical and biological defense equipment guides, through funding provided by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ). This guide focuses on specifically assisting the emergency first responder communication in the understanding of biological agent detection equipment. Other guides will be issued in the areas of chemical detection decontamination, personal protection, and communication equipment for the emergency first responder community.
