Abstract
This thesis is addressed to those fire protection engineers who work in branches of industry where the inadvertent operation of fire suppression systems could damage equipment critical to the performance of a mission whose failure could directly impact the safety and health of specific persons or of the public in general. The purpose of the thesis is to aid these fire protection engineers in the design, installation, testing, and maintenance of such fire suppression systems, pointing out potential problem areas and pitfalls. It points out that potential inadvertent operation of fire suppression systems can be reduced by proper design, installation, testing, and maintenance techniques.
