Abstract
As a result of a systematic analysis of the findings from operational surveys, plant tours, and inspections conducted at Pine Bluff Aresenal, four manufacturing operations have been identified as areas of primary concern. These operations have been evaluated under Phase 2, Segment 2, Operational Survey. However, another relatively important but potentially more serious accident mechanism, namely run-up reactions, has been identified as an area worthy of investigation. This report represents a preliminary investigation of the parameters included in the run-up dust reaction. Two types of tests were conducted: (1) Ignition criteria of large bulk pyrotechnic dusts; (2) Optimal run-up conditions of large bulk pyrotechnic dusts.
