Abstract
Phase Change Materials possess the ability to absorb large quantities of latent heat within a certain temperature range. This feature is utilized to create new protective garments offering significantly improved protection against conductive and radiant heat. Applying Phase Change Material to a garment can also enhance its wearing comfort substantially. This paper focuses on the selection of appropriate Phase Change Material and suitable textile structures to which the Phase Change Material will be applied, as well as the design of new heat protective garments. A measuring and evaluation system to determine the specific protective function of the Phase Change Material will be introduced and test results will be discussed.
