Abstract
ONLY ABSTRACT IN ENGLISH: Experiments were carried out in a large compartment using Positive Pressure Ventilation (PPV). The PPV is used by the fire brigade as a supplementary equipment when fighting ordinary compartment fires. The increased use of PPV has opened the possibility to use it in medium sized compartments like schoolrooms, atrium or sportshalls. The efficiency of PPV in medium sized compartments is, however, not very well known by the fire brigades. In present report test results with different type of fans and fan arrangement and different compartment sizes are presented. No fire was present in the compartment. The distance from the door opening and different ratios of exhaust to inlet areas were varied. Two different compartments were used; 10 x 16 m and 5 m high and 10 x 10 m by 4.2 m high. The volume flow rate, static pressure and gas temperatures were measured. A theoretical model was developed. The model calculate the pressure, the volume flow rate and the smoke visibility inside the compartment for different geometrical parameters such as the area ratio of exhaust to inlet opening and the volume of the compartment.
